Tri-County Race Track to Reopen in ’25 Under J&J Promotions

Trio of Practices Set for Early March with Grand Reopening Scheduled for March 22

BRASSTOWN, N.C. (01/20/25) – A fixture in the western North Carolina racing community will thunder back to life in 2025. After sitting idle in 2024 Tri-County Race Track will be back better than ever this season.

The facility is being reopened by J&J Promotions, which is spearheaded by Tennessee’s Jason Welshan and North Carolina’s Jamie Oliver.

“I’m excited, I’m nervous, I’m all points in between, but this is something I’ve always wanted to do and with a great business partner like Jamie Oliver and unbelievable support from our families and the racing community, it’s now a reality,” Welshan shared. “We are reopening Tri-County Race Track, and we’re working around the clock to make a lot of improvements for the grand reopening.”

While the final details were just recently finalized, work has been steadily being performed over the past few months at the ¼-mile oval, which was built in 1968 and is nestled adjacent to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

“The list of improvements is long. We’ve leased property behind the track, and the pit area will now be four times bigger than it previously was to allow more rooms for teams and more potential to host bigger shows. We have new fencing and LED lighting being installed. Additionally, new bathrooms are being built along with a remodeled concession stand. I think people are going to be blown away when they see all the changes,” Welshan continued.

Weather permitting, the track currently has Open Practices scheduled for March 1, 8, and 15. Tri-County Race Track’s grand reopening is tentatively slated for Saturday, March 22.

Weekly divisions will include Late Models, 604 Late Models, 602 Late Models, Open Wheel Modifieds, Street Stocks, and Front Wheel Drives. Special events are also already scheduled with the Southern Thunder Late Model Series and the Topless Outlaw Series.

J&J Promotions plans to run every other Saturday night, working in conjunction with nearby Sugar Creek Raceway (Blue Ridge, Ga.).

“It’s very important to us to work in conjunction with Sugar Creek (Raceway), so we’ve been in close communications with them as we make plans for the season to make sure we aren’t stepping on one another’s toes,” Welshan said.

A full 2025 schedule will be released soon.

Welshan is also quick to point out that his involvement with J&J Promotions and Tri-County Race Track will in no way impede his day-to-day operations with his other businesses; Savage Chassis, Competition Racing Equipment, and Jason Welshan Racing.

“It’s important that my customers from my other three businesses know that there will be no changes in my involvement in those companies. Rather, adding this race track to my endeavors is just a fourth expansion of everything I do. All these other companies I already have relate toward race track stuff, so this felt like a natural addition.”

For Welshan, what Jamie Oliver brings to the table is the crucial part of the equation for reopening Tri-County Race Track and making sure it succeeds.

“Jamie is not a only a great friend and well-respected racer, but he lives just a few miles from Tri-County Race Track, and he knows that community and that race track as good as anybody. He's going to very hands on in the day-to-day operations there, and I’m thankful to be teamed up with him. There’s no way this would work without him,” Welshan stated. “My family and his family are committed to making this work and doing all we can to make Tri-County Race Track a top-notch facility.”

A new track website and social media channels are currently in development. Until then, anyone interested in becoming a marketing partner with the track or seeking more information on the reopening can reach Jason Welshan at Competition.Racing@yahoo.com.
